Military ETC Card FAQs
Can SOFA status personnel get an ETC card in Japan?
Yes! JapanETCcard specializes in providing ETC cards to SOFA status personnel including active duty military, dependents, DoD civilians, and contractors. We've been serving US military families in Japan since 2013.
Do I need a Japanese bank account for an ETC card?
No. Unlike Japanese ETC card providers, JapanETCcard does not require a Japanese bank account or Japanese credit card. We accept US credit cards and can process payments internationally.
How much is the ETC card deposit for military?
The refundable security deposit is ¥40,000 for your first card and ¥20,000 for additional cards. This deposit is fully refundable when you cancel, minus any outstanding toll charges.
Can I get my card delivered to base?
Yes! We deliver ETC cards directly to your on-base address via Yamato or Sagawa. For Yokosuka, Kadena, Camp Foster, Camp Zama, and Yokota, we also offer pickup at our office or partner locations.
What happens to my ETC card when I PCS?
Start your cancellation 30 days before departure. Go to Dashboard → Cancellation page, submit your request, destroy your card (cut through the chip), and upload a photo. Your deposit (¥40,000 primary, ¥20,000 additional) is refunded after verification via Wise or US bank transfer.
Do ETC discounts apply to military?
Yes! You get the same ETC discounts as any Japanese resident: up to 30% off late night (midnight-4am), up to 30% off weekends/holidays on rural expressways, and ETC mileage points that convert to free tolls.
